When the kids were little, we took an annual spring trip from Maine to Virginia. Emerging from the plane, or train or car into warmth and green, blossoms everywhere we looked. The smell of nectar hung in the air. Grandparents and aunts were near. Mostly what we craved was the way that good Virginia dirt didn’t freeze solid - we could just reach down and get our hands in the soil, that was the joy. This is the first spring for a while that I haven’t gotten some travel reprieve from the impossibly slow Maine spring. It’s early May, and the maple leaves are crumpled together in a tight fist, just about to relax and open to the warmth. That’s me, too. Crumpled and unsure. Waiting for some certainty of warmth to tell me it’s okay. To relax and open.

To celebrate spring, I’ve moved my podcast, ‘What Is Going On, Anyway?’ here, to Substack. This is a real and valued home for my work, my creativity, and my podcast. I’ve relied on social media to share what’s been going on for me, but often my irl friends don’t even see what I post. With this model, my subscribers, friends, and family have a chance to take a peek at what is going on (ANYWAY) every time I post!

It's a full Moon in Scorpio for the Full Flower Moon this year. It's also Beltane/Bealtaine. A time to celebrate the return of spring. We are far enough along, we've got some green grass and early greens to enjoy again. This is a time to enjoy our own inner flowering and knowing that we've followed our integrity to a point where celebration becomes necessary. It's a recognition that we are not striving so much for a place to land as BEING landed, grounded and integral to the place we happen to be. We get hexagram 34.1.2.3 to 16 - Great Vigour to Enthusiasm.

Sort of like getting over sea sickness and finding your sea legs, we will become accustomed to this new kind of speed. We learn to feel our peripheral energetic sight and this helps us to make sense of things. We get Hexagram 2. Earth, The Receptive unchanging.

For so many of us (in the northern hemisphere) this is also winter solstice. Staying home, going to bed early and staying cozy warm come naturally. I say lean into this and try even more to slow down. Use your brakes. Take a break. Give yourself the present of time. It is invaluable. Priceless. The greatest gift of all.

I got covid and had to lay low for a week. This time we may be feeling out of sorts, wondering about how to proceed. I don't offer much in the way of advice. You'll hear me flail and be generally discouraged by my own lack of enthusiasm. It took a week to pull together, but let's see what the I Ching has for us this time, Hexagram 45 Unchanging. Gathering. I'd advise considering what and who you would gather if you were having a seasonal celebration. What and who do you want to gather to prepare for the next season?

Welcome to our Full Moon in Pisces with a total lunar eclipse to make it fancy. For some reason, I've got it all wrong as I'm introducing and I say full Libra Moon in Pisces. Say what? I just messed it up, oh well! I'm titling this "Say Goodbye" because I talk about how goodbyes challenge our sense of love. I think Goodbyes can be expansive and also really so sad. This full moon gives us an extra cleaning and opportunity to let things go. This old saying let by gones be by gones may have some potency for this time period. As we let go, it's really nice to also imagine what is coming next. By taking one clear step towards something that holds sway in our imagination, even when we don't know what will come of it, we are slowly moving towards a future that holds more space for our wholeness.
